Investigations into the case of two City Police officers and two civilians, arrested in December 2015 in connection with an alleged armed robbery of an English tourist couple, are not yet complete.
The two officers are Simeon Mati Kapolo and Engelman Haingura, while the two civilians are Llewellyn Ralph Strauss and Bjorn Wandeschowski.
Court documents indicate the four suspects made another appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court along Lüderitz Street on Wednesday, when their case was postponed until 29 August to allow the police to complete their investigations.
The four suspected robbers are each free on bail of N$15 000.
The bail granted on 14 December 2015 is coupled with stringent conditions in that every suspect must report on Mondays and Fridays between 07:00 and 19:00 at the NamPol Serious Crime Investigations Unit in the capital.
They are also ordered not to directly or indirectly make contact with State witnesses or interfere with police investigations.
They were also ordered to hand over all their travel documents to NamPol Investigating Officer, Inspector Felix Ndikoma.
Windhoek-based defence lawyers of Milton Engelbrecht, Kadhila Amoomo, Mese Tjituri and Gilroy Casper represented the four suspects.
Public Prosecutor Tatelo Cuthbert Luspani appeared for the State and the suspects appeared before Windhoek Magistrate Justine Asino on Wednesday morning.
A total amount of N$300 000 in British pounds is alleged to have been stolen during the alleged armed robbery, of which about N$75 000 have been recovered by NamPol.
It is alleged that the two City Police officers, a tour guide and an apparent diamond dealer were involved in the alleged theft. The incident occurred near or along Laurent Kabila Street in Suiderhof when the two City Police officers, dressed in their uniforms, allegedly mounted an unauthorised roadblock in the area. They allegedly searched a vehicle whose occupants included the tourist couple and a tour guide, who was their driver.
The two cops were driving in a fully marked City Police vehicle.
The tourists and tour guide found the roadblock on their way from visiting an alleged diamond dealer from whom they were apparently supposed to buy the precious stones.
But the tourists decided not to buy the stones, as they appeared to be fake.
The two officers allegedly stopped the tourists’ vehicle and searched their bodies and interior of the vehicle from which the money was taken from.
The officers then apparently requested the tourists to follow them to the police station but they (police officers) drove fast and the tourists lost sight of the. The tourists reported the theft case to NamPol and provided the registration number of the City Police vehicle.
