Oshakati Mayor Katrina Shimbulu announced last week that her council had resolved to extend the service contract of the town’s chief executive officer Werner Iita by another five years.
Iita joined the council on 30 October 2011 and his term of office expires on 30 September this year.
Addressing a media conference, Shimbulu said Iita’s contract was being extended based on his exceptional expertise and ability to mediate between parties.
“The council recognised his expertise; he performed to the satisfaction of the council and we realised he is a good negotiator who always resolved the town’s burning land issues with residents amicably.” Shimbulu used the same meeting to announce that the vacant post of the town’s public relations officer will be filled soon.
This follows the resignation of the former public relations officer, Jackson Muma, who is now serving the Ongwediva Town Council in the same position.
Muma had served as the Oshakati Town Council’s spokesman for the past five years.
